TATToo Aftercare DO’s and DONT’s

Initially you will have some bleeding, swelling and soreness (often likened to sunburn).

For the first few days you body will emit some ink so beware your best clothes and bed sheets.

Leave your dressing on for a minimum of 3-4 hours (or longer if specified by your tattooist). When you remove your dressing you must wash your tattoo with warm water and a mild fragrance free liquid soap (antibacterial if possible) to clean away any blood and body fluids.

Leave over night then the following day wash once a day in the shower and apply a moisturiser 3-4 times daily (At Nala we have had very good results with Bepanthen, but alternatives such as E45 cream, cocoa butter, vitamin E cream can be used) With the moisturiser,. you do not want to overload your tattoo just apply a small amount, just enough to moisturise the area and prevent it from drying out. Repeat this regime daily until your tattoo is healed.

Healing varies from person to person and tattoo to tattoo, but generally a tattoo takes 2-3 weeks to heal. In this period it is not unusual for your tattoo to develop a scab or a fine layer of peeling skin, DO NOT be tempted to pick it, as this will result in ink loss.

During the healing process the colours in your tattoo will look dull and faded, this will rectify when the tattoo is fully healed.

AVOID!

• Soaking your tattoo in the bath.
• Swimming pools, spa baths and Jacuzzis.
• Exposure to the sun, sun beds and spray tans.
• Do use your common sense, treat the tattoo as you would treat a minor operation, keep clean and dry, don’t touch it unless you are cleaning it.
• Don’t let anyone else touch it!
• When you dry it pat it dry don’t rub it, make sure the towels is cleaned and only used by you.
